Vanity Vengeance A Weekend In Vegas A Sophie Katz Novel edition by Kyra Davis Literature Fiction eBooks

Vanity, Vengeance and a Weekend is the latest in a series about a mystery writer and her band of fabulously kooky friends who find themselves embroiled in real life mysteries. This time, Sophie's long time boyfriend Anatoly reveals a secret marriage of convenience to her and they break up. Trying to forget about it, Sophie plans a girls weekend in Vegas with her friends only to find out there's more to the story than she knew and it has followed her to Vegas.

I've read all of the other books and I've enjoyed them. (Which is the reason I picked this one up.) The humor was great. I love that all the secondary characters came back because I adore their banter. Sophie is a firecracker who gets off some really great lines. The plot was little predictable but I won't hold that against the author. It was still a decent book.

But something seemed off about this one in the series. There were some clear formatting and grammatical errors. It didn't affect the story but it did throw me off--like seeing the tag on a serial killer's mask in a horror movie.

Vanity Vengeance A Weekend In Vegas A Sophie Katz Novel edition by Kyra Davis Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

This book is absolutely impossible to put down!! I have read all of the Sophie katz books and the perdiciments she gets herself in is unworldly. The book is thrilling with many twists and turns you wouldn't have seen coming. This book is HOT... the main character Sophie katz and all of her friends are easy to relate to, the verbiage is great and there is a hot Russian, a man wanting power, an exwife, and a margarita all of which making this book a thrill. For 3.99 this book is a steal!! Another job well done by Kyra Davis!!
I love the Sophie Katz stories they are always full of hilarious antics, great characters and great romance. The only thing about this book that I didn't enjoy was the typos. It seemed like every chapter had at least one glaringly obvious mistake. It didn't detract from the story so I'm not going to knock a star off for it, but I just don't understand why there were so many mistakes, especially from such an established author. That said I hope there are many more Sophie tales to come!
I was really, really disappointed in this book. I had been looking forward to it for a long time (and had been following Davis' FB page for updates).

When it came out...as a self-published e-book...I snagged it.

Davis should have kept her editor; it was CLEAR who was in charge of keeping the characters witty, the action flowing smoothly, and the lines fresh but familiar--and it sure wasn't Davis. I don't know why Davis switched to self-publishing (probably her contract was up and not renewed; it happens), but she fails as an author on her own, without a publishing house to back her.

Fellow readers, I KEEP SEEING THIS. I see successful, enjoyable authors think they can do better in self-publishing and then fail time and time again. To make my point about VVaWV

The book was FULL of grammatical and spelling issues. Sentence structure had fallen off a ravine and couldn't be rescued. Formatting was horrible at best, as if Davis had simply rushed the book off to the "presses", as it were. There were spaces in the middle of names, in the middle of sentences, you name it, there was crappy formatting all around.

Davis noted on Facebook that the formatting errors had been taken care of, and to return the book and redownload. I did. Readers, the SAME formatting issues were still there. After that I threw up my hands.

As for the characters. It was hard for me to get going on this book. The pacing was choppy and the witticisms I had so enjoyed in Davis' previous books were missing. The mystery was...not nearly as complex or fascinating; it was, in fact, annoying and downright boring.

Anatoly's mystery marriage, finally solved, was...a let down. It was annoying and seemed like a desperate attempt by the author to keep her series going.

All in all, unless Davis gets another contract at Red Dress Ink, or another publishing house, I won't be reading, or buying, any more Sophie books. This one was a real let down, and I think professional authors need to leave self-publishing to the kiddies.
One thing I have to say about Kyra Davis is that her books NEVER leave me disappointed. This one is no different in that aspect. She is brilliant in her ability to believe that these characters can be everyday people that get into not-so-everyday situations. This first attempt at self-publishing is something to be very proud of for this wonderful author. The book will make you laugh, cry, and keep you on the edge of your seat at the turn of each page. She is a stellar writer and Sophie is a super-star once again in this book. Way to go, Kyra! I can only hope that this is not the last time we read about Sophie and her amazing group of friends! I LOVED IT!
The Sophie Katz books are my favorite series! I want to be friends with every single character. Never a dull moment. This might be my favorite of the series. It really is hard to pick! I read it while and work and couldn't help but laugh out loud at my desk every other page. I love a mystery book that I can't see the plot completely unfold for me, and this book had my suspense built up the whole time. With the hilarious gang of friends, awkward situations, love, fighting and plenty of coffee this book is a fantastic read.
This is my first time reading a mystery book by this author and I have to say that I truly enjoyed the book. Now I am excited to go back and read the first five books. Ms Davis has found her a new fan of her work.
I've read the entire Sophie Katz series, and this was by far an incredibly disappointing read. While the Sophie Katz series is meant as a sassy, fun read (with less than believeable plots), this one was so far fetched and the "bad guys" so one-dimensional, I struggled to get through it.

And the copy editing is horrible! I found at least two to three typos, missing words and grammatical errors every chapter! It made for distracting reading, and made me feel like this was just a slip shod, poor excuse to get another book on the shelves to sell.
